Pork Import to Shanghai: Up in Price & Down in QTY in Jan-July 2017

According to Shanghai Customs statistics, in January-July 2017, Shanghai imported pork 187,000 tons, down 29.2% YOY; worth RMB 2.48 billion yuan, down 27.9% YOY; average import price at 13.2 yuan per kilogram, up 1.9% YOY.

This July, Shanghai imported pork 20,000 tons, up 4.6% from June and down 58.8% YOY; import price at 12.8 yuan per kilogram, down 5.7% from June and down 12.1% YOY.

Pork Import Characteristics in Jan-July:

By ordinary trade mode, Shanghai imported pork 186,000 tons, down 28.7% YOY, accounting for 99.3% of the total; under Customs special control, imported 1,219.9 tons, a sharp reduction of 68.6% YOY.

Shanghai-based private enterprises imported 162,000 tons, down 27.4%, accounting for 86.5%; state-owned enterprises imported 16,000 tons, down 29.5%, accounting for 8.3%; foreign-invested enterprises imported 9,816.7 tons, down 50.1%, accounting for 5.2%.

The pork from EU reached 133,000 tons, down 38.9%, accounting for 71%; therein, 53,000 tons from Spain, a decrease of 30.7%; 21,000 tons from Germany, down 58.6%. Over the same period, pork from Canada reached 20,000 tons, down 17.6%; pork from Brazil and USA respectively 16,000 tons and 9,982.1 tons, up 40.8% and 5.3 times.
