Shanghai Import of Pork: Up 49.8% YOY in Jan-Feb 2019

According to Shanghai Customs statistics, in the first two months of this year, pork import into Shanghai reached 78,000 tons, an increase of 49.8% year-on-year; valued at 1.02 billion yuan, up 47.8% YOY; average import price at 13 yuan per kilogram, down 1.3% YOY.

In February alone, pork import reached 32,000 tons, down 29.7% from January and increased YOY for the ninth consecutive month to 52.3%. The average import price was 12.8 yuan per kilogram, down 3.2% from January and up 0.4% YOY, ending a decline for 12 consecutive months.

In January-February, Shanghai imported 50,000 tons of pork from the EU, an increase of 29.8%, accounting for 64.6% of the total. Therein, import from Spain was 19,000 tons, up 45.6%; import from Germany was 10,000 tons, down 8%. In the same period, import from Canada 13,000 tons and import from Brazil 10,000 tons, up 1.5 times and 1.3 times respectively. In addition, pork from Chile was 2,000 tons, up 17.6%.
