Shenzhen-USA Trade in High-Tech Products: Value Up in Jan-Aug 2017

For January-August 2017, the United States was the No. 5 market for Shenzhen City’s exports and imports of high-tech products after Hong Kong SAR, ASEAN, Taiwan and South Korea. In the first 8 months, Shenzhen-USA trade of high-tech products totaled RMB 47.06 billion yuan, up 14% year-on-year (YOY), accounting for 5.3% of Shenzhen total; therein, the export-to-USA value was 35.01 billion yuan, up 12.5%, accounting for 7.7%; the import-from-USA value was 12.05 billion yuan, up 18.8%, accounting for 2.8%.

From 2012 to 2017, regarding high-tech products, Shenzhen-USA trade value declined year-by-year from 5.6% in 2012 to 4.4% in 2016, and only rebounded to 5.3% in the first 8 months of 2017 -- the proportion up 0.8 percentage point YOY.

Trade Modes: in the first 8 months, by ordinary trade, the high-tech products trade with USA reached 24.14 billion yuan, up 25.3% YOY, accounting for 51.3% -- up 4.6 percentage points YOY; by processing trade, the trade with USA reached 16.38 billion yuan, up 3.7%, accounting for 34.8% -- down 3.5 percentage points YOY; under Customs special control, the trade with USA reached 5.61 billion yuan, up 11.5% YOY.

Enterprise Types: in the first 8 months, Shenzhen’s foreign-invested enterprises made the US trade worth 22.9 billion yuan, up 3.3%, accounting for 48.7% -- down 5 percentage points YOY; private enterprises made 14.15 billion yuan, up 18.1% YOY, accounting for 30.1%; state-owned enterprises made 10.01 billion yuan, up 40.4% YOY.

Exports to USA: in the first 8 months, Shenzhen-exported mobile phones totaled 6.35 billion yuan, up 42.9% YOY, accounting for 18.1%; tablet PCs and laptop computers totaled 650 million yuan and 540 million yuan respectively, down 4.5% and 48.4% YOY; LCD TVs totaled 820 million yuan, down 43.9% YOY.

Imports from USA: in the first 8 months, Shenzhen-imported aircrafts totaled 2.46 billion yuan, up 9% YOY, accounting for 20.4%; the machinery and devices for semiconductor or integrated circuit manufacturing totaled 530 million yuan, a YOY double increase; medical equipment totaled 350 million yuan, down 14.7% YOY.
