China to Comply with WTO Auto Parts Ruling

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China will revise its tariffs on imported auto parts. As a result, beginning September 1 China reduces its auto part duties from 25 percent to 10 percent. China had argued that its original high tariffs on auto parts imports were needed to prevent automakers in China from evading vehicle import duties, which can be done by importing cars in component-by-component shipments. At the end of last year the WTO made its ruling that China should revise the tariffs within a certain period. Officials of the MIIT have announced the tariff has been revised and published by the relevant department.
