The home appliance trade-in program, which has been in operation for one year, will soon expand its pilot area, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).
The home appliance trade-in policy started its pilots in nine provinces and cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong, Fuzhou, Changsha from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010. The data showed that by May 23, 2010, new household appliance sales broke 50 billion yuan due to the trade-in policy.
The sales of home appliance trade-in activity increased 21 percent from March to May 2010 compared with the previous month. The policy played an important role in it.
The official from MOFCOM did not disclose the specific date for when the pilot area would be enlarged.
"As of now, the trade-in policy is going on, and we haven't received any notices from the government," a representative of Gome appliance said on June 1.
