Russia Introduces Duty on Some Stainless Steel from Brazil, China, Korea and South Africa

Russia has introduced a three-year, anti-dumping import duty on some flat-rolled steel from Brazil, China, Korea and South Africa, a government decree showed on November 24,2010.

The duties will apply to flat-rolled steel containing at least 2.5 percent nickel.

The duty will be set at 39.1 percent for Chinese producers excluding Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel, at 62.8 percent for Korean firms excluding Posco, at 21.1 percent for Brazil, and 33.3 percent for South Africa.

The duty for Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel and Posco will be set at 29.9 and 4.8 percent, respectively, the decree showed.

The decree was signed on Nov. 23 and will come into force one month after publication in the official government gazette.

Mechel is the main Russian producer of the type of products affected, which are used in the engineering industries.
