Mexico Defers WTO Panel Request on China Textile/Apparel Subsidies

On December 11, 2012, Mexico authority indicated that it will defer its request for the WTO to set an expert panel for the DS451 case on China subsidies for textile/apparel production and exports.

On October 15, 2012, Mexico brought the Chinese subsidies to the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) by claiming that China breached WTO rules by giving the subsidies in the form of tax reliefs, low-interest loans, debt waiver, land use right, cash payment discount, etc.

As it missed its submission to December 17 DSB conference, the next chance for its request will be the DSB conference to convene in January 2013.
