Russia Doubles Nickel Tariff to 10 Percent

The Russian government will double an export tariff on nickel to 10 percent, an order published on November 19,2010 in the government gazette, Rossiiskaya Gazeta, showed.

The tariff will become effective one month after the official publication, it said.

The government lifted the 5-percent tariff on nickel and a 10 percent tariff on copper cathodes in February 2009 to help local producers to cope with the global economic crisis.

It had since restored the tariffs as metals prices recovered.

The world's top nickel producer is Russia's mining giant Norilsk Nickel.
