Russia to Impose Import Tariffs on Computers

[2011-04-28 17:21:49]

According to RBC news on April 26, Russian Ministry of Economic Development is considering imposition of import tariffs of 10% on complete computers but currently no tariff on related components and parts.

During the first 3 years after Russia joined the WTO, the import tariff of 10% will be levied on desktop computers and laptops, but after the 3 years, the tariff will be cut to zero.

This move is to protect Russian domestic manufacturers and in the meantime attract foreign manufacturers to set up plants in Russia. Currently, only HP and Foxconn have computer plants in Russia.
