Russian Federation Customs on it official website states that Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will raise the import tariff from USD 85 per ton this July to USD 140 per ton on raw sugar from August 1, 2011, so as to protect the sugar markets of the member states.

The Customs Union's import tariff on raw sugar was USD 140 per ton from last October to this March, and it was lowered to USD 50 per ton from this March to this June, then it was raised to USD 85 per ton this July.

This July, import tariff on raw sugar affected by international market prices is ranging from USD 50 to USD 250 per ton; meanwhile, the Union countries have not started to process their own beets yet, so import control on raw sugar is relatively loose.

From this August when the harvest time for beets starts, the import tariff on raw sugar will range from USD 140-270 per ton.
