Brazil Lowers Import Duties on Production/Info/Telecom Products

On Nov. 10, 2011, Brazil announced that it would add 196 kinds of new products into a catalog of production equipment, information and telecommunication products covered by import duty reduction or exemption.

As reported, new products were successively added into the catalog in recent months:

On October 6, 16 kinds were added; on September 21, 323 kinds added; on August 10, 284 kinds added; on July 18, 7 kinds added; on July 12, 340 kinds added; in early June, 300 kinds added; in early May, 133 kinds added; in early April, 250 kinds added; in middle March, 300 kinds added; and in February, 470 kinds added. Now, there are more than 2,600 production equipment, information and telecommunication products in the catalog.

However, only when no corresponding ones are made in Brazil, they can meet the special duty breaks.

HS codes of those added products are listed in Chapter 84; moreover, tariffs on some products under Chapters 82, 85, 86 and 90 will also be lowered about 2% before December 31, 2012.
