As forecasted in the report on Report on World Economic Situation and Prospects 2009 lately issued by the United Nations, the growth rate of global economy in 2009 would drop from 2.5% in 2008 to 1% under the influence of financial crisis. Before that, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also forecasted that the economic growth in the coming year would slow down, but less pessimistic than this report.
As pointed out in this report, the average growth rate of global economy during 2004-2007 is 3.5-4%, but since the second half year of 2008, the economies in developed countries have stumbled into recession, and gradually spread to developing countries. Although various measures are taken one after another for the purpose to stabilize markets, the substantial letdown of economy in 2009 could hardly be held back.
