A personalized car with body of bright patterns, shining hubs, unique headlights, as stepping on the accelerator pedal, huge engine roared just like a race car, which has attracted everybody to crowd around, was just an ordinary Subaru. However, after decoration and refitting from inside to outside, it become a unique modified car.
At the auto refitting and tools area of the 2nd China International Auto Parts Expo (CIAPE) which recently closed, there were several dozens of modified cars like this Subaru. Without the auto logo, you can hardly imagine their previous appearances. As introduced by on-site workers, these modified cars were all provided by refitting companies, clubs, or individuals. "I bring my modified car here to show people the fun of auto refitting", said a car owner.
In the exhibition area, except personalized modified cars, over ten auto refitting companies attracted many consumers to consult about the auto refitting on the spot. "It's a fashion to spend tens of thousands yuan to modify a car", said a visitor to the expo. A worker from an auto refitting club introduced that the auto refitting was initiated from car racing sector, and meant to improve the performance of race cars and make better achievements in races. However, with the development of auto industry and the spread of car racing, auto refitting has become a part of life for many common car fans who seek for personality and speed, and become a fashionable consumption.
The looser regulation on auto refitting in China in recent years has further stimulated the auto refitting market to embrace an "upsurge of auto refitting". As learned, the new edition of "Provisions on Motor Vehicle Registration" which has been implemented from October 1st clearly regulates that auto refitting including engine or vehicle frame replacement can be registered again after being modified. Many car owners said the newly implemented regulation gives more space for their cars to show their own styles, so they started to modify their cars one after another.
"We are busy now, basically, there are seven to eight businesses every day. " Staff from a participating auto refitting company said. "In the past, car owners wanted to repair their old or broken cars, and now many of them want personalized auto refitting for their new cars." The most obvious change of modified cars is their appearance, but the core focus on the improvement of internal technological indicators like performance and operation. As known, cars of different models vary in performance, so the refitting methods vary, too. They should make proper refitting program in accordance with car conditions, and modify the suspend system, ignition system, inlet and exhaust system, brake system, and tire.
According to statistics, the output value of China's auto refitting industry in 2002 was RMB500 million yuan, and reached RMB2.5 billion yuan in 2008. As predicted by Auto Products & Refitting Technology Center of China Association of Plant Engineering, the output value of China's auto refitting industry will surpass RMB20 billion yuan in 2012.
Experts indicated that Chinese consumers had now a tendency to enter a consumption upgrade phase of focusing on "fun of driving and personal experience" after the phase of replacing walking by cars. They hope to enjoy more fun and personality increasingly. And the new regulation of "Provisions on Motor Vehicle Registration" further boosts the development of auto refitting. As the market gets more and more mature, in the future, the auto refitting will become a new growth point of the auto industry development.
