China's Power Output Growth Slows

[2009-02-26 09:44:01]

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on Wednesday that China's total power output reached 3,433.4 billion kWh in 2008, up 5.2 percent year-on-year, while its growth rate was 9.4 percentage points lower than the previous year.

The country's power consumption was 3,426.8 billion kWh in 2008, up 5.2 percent year-on-year, with the growth rate being 9.6 percentage points lower than 2007.

Due to the global economic downturn, power supply was likely to exceed demand in China this year, said the NDRC.
In addition, power supply in some regions could come under great pressure in some regions during times of peak demand in the summer, it said.
