[2009-02-26 09:49:50]
An understanding of Chinese culture, coupled with competitiveness and perseverance are the key factors that could help Mexican entrepreneurs succeed in China, a Chinese diplomat in Mexico said Wednesday.
"As far as I'm concerned, if Mexican companies infuse Chinese elements into their products or enterprise culture, it will be easier for them to enter or expand their Chinese market," the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, Chen Yuming, said at a forum entitled "How to do business in China?"
According to Chinese Embassy data, Mexico has few companies in China, and only 0.01 percent of total Mexican investment overseas had gone to China till 2008.
China, however, has 375 companies in Mexico with an investment of more than 500 million U.S. dollars.

At the forum, organized by the China-Mexico Research Center in the National University of Mexico, Chen said perseverance is important, because Mexican businessmen who want to cooperate with Chinese companies need to overcome the language barrier and be patient during the decision-making process of their Chinese counterparts.
"It takes time, which doesn't mean the Chinese side lacks interest; actually there are many Chinese companies (who would be) glad to do business with Mexico," he said.
