Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park

The Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park is established in July 1992 and is a national-level hi-tech park, with planned area of 25 km2. In August of 1999, the Shanghai municipal party committee and municipal government made a strategic decision of "Focusing on Zhangjiang", defining that the park should take two great hi-tech industries----biological medicine and information technology as the leading factors in the industry, so as to concentrate reflecting the subject function of innovating and pioneering.

　　Technology, capital and market have fluent interacting channels in the park. The garden culture and pioneering atmosphere of "self-design, independent management, free competition" and "encouraging success, allowing failure" have been formed gradually. Through development for near 12 years, the park has constructed the three national-level bases frame (Shanghai national biological medicine scientific and technological industrial base, national information technology industrial base and national scientific and technological undertaking base), and formed three leading industries of biological medicine, integrated circuit and software.

　　The biological medicine industry is formed an industry group, composed of 42 domestic and international first-class pharmacy plants, such as Roche, Amoxi, GlaxoSmithKline and Pioneer Medicine etc., and has introduced 31 research and development institutions, such as the Medicine Institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Southern Research and Development Center of Human Gene Group etc, as well as the pioneering group, represented by more than 120 medium and small-scale scientific and technological enterprises.

　　The IT industrial base takes development of integrated circuits and software industry as a handle to drive common development of computer, communication, photoelectron, and information safety and bankcard industry. With the Zhongxin Hongli and Beiling etc. chip projects settling in the park, there are 80 chip design companies, 3 silicon chip manufacture companies, 13 photo covering film and assembly test enterprises, 11 research and development educational institutions, and 34 mating and equipment supply companies gathering in Zhangjiang. The integrated circuit industry chain has basically been formed in ZhangJiang.

　　Through a few years’efforts, the Pudong Software Center with an area of 120,000 m2 has already become a "State software industry base". The declaration process of the Pudong Software Center "State software export base" has been finished. At present, there are 1176 registered enterprises totally in the park and 211-stationed enterprises. A lot of well-known software enterprises, such as Microsoft, Bi Bo, SONY, Kyocera Electronics etc., have gathered in the garden.
