Top Chinese Legislator Urges Transformation of Economic Growth Pattern

China should promote the transformation of the pattern of its economic growth and upgrade domestic industry, said top legislator Wu Bangguo Monday.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature, made the remarks while visiting southeast China's Zhejiang Province.
He also urged local governments to ensure and improve living standards while maintaining stable, relatively rapid economic development.
Wu encouraged Zhejiang to promote its service industry and create more job opportunities. He also highlighted the importance of social insurance and other public welfare systems.
