Public Meeting To Discuss Agenda Items For The 29th Session Of The Codex Committ

WASHINGTON, Jan. 7, 2008 – The Office of the Under Secretary for Food Safety, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, today announced a public meeting to provide information and receive comments on agenda items and draft U.S. positions to be discussed at the 29th Session of the Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products (CCFFP), in Trondheim, Norway, Feb. 18 - 23.



The public meeting will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, in room 3B-047 of the Harvey Wiley Federal Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, Md. Attendees are required to pre-register for the meeting. To pre-register, provide your name, organization, mailing address and phone number to Melissa Ellwanger either by e-mail at Melissa.Ellwanger@fda.hhs.gov or at (301) 436-1401.



Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization. Codex develops food standards, guidelines and codes of practice in order to protect the health of consumers, ensure fair practices in the food trade and promote coordination of food standards undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.



Agenda items and documents related to the 29th Session of the CCFFP will be available on-line at http://www.codexalimentarius.net/current.asp . The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) invites interested persons to submit comments on this notice. Comments may be e-mailed to Ms. Ellwanger at the above e-mail address.
