Pakistan : Textile exports hit during July-Oct 2006 [19'Jn 2007]

Textile export witnesses sluggish growth in current fiscal after registering an annual average growth of 11 percent in the last seven years.



During July-October 2006, textile exports of the country stood at US $3.2 billion against $3.5 billion in same period last year, a decline of 9 percent.



Similarly, share of textile exports in total exports reduced to 58 percent compared to 65 percent in previous year.



During first four months, only exports of five items posted growth. Exports of cotton cloth, bed wear and readymade garments recorded a decline of 18.5 percent, 19.3 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.



In October 2006, textile exports reached $783 million compared to $824 million in previous month, down by 5 percent.



But in November, there was slight hike in the exports which touched $864.935 million as compared to $681.570 million in the same month of last fiscal.



Experts believe that earthquake which took place in October 8 last year has affected the exports most.
