Ultimate Potential of China's Composites Industry

[2009-01-09]

Global resin matrix composite annual output reached 8 million tons last year with Chian now accounting for 25% of production - the No.2 producer in the world. China's resin matrix composite is expected to grow by 12-15% annually. With rapid developments in the aviation and automotive sectors, the application areas for reinforced plastics expand day by day.

-Glass Fiber. In 2007, total output of Chian's glass fiber reached 1.6 million tons, 37.85% higher than in 2006. Export of glass fiber and it products reached 1.08 million tons in 2007, up by 37.3% than the previous year. China has become the largest glass fiber and electric fabric production country in the world.

- Carbon Fiber. The world's total output of carbon fiber is estimated to reach US$13.6 billion by 2010 or grow by 37% compare to 2006 figure, according to a UK material technology publication company. Increased demand for components in navigation, sports products manufacturing and the start of China large-scale aerobus production in 2020 drastic demand surge for China's carbon fiber.

- High-Tenacity Ployethylene Fiber. More than 15 enterprises in Beijing, Zhejiang and Hunan provinces are investing into high-tenacity polyethylene fiber industry. The application area awaits more developments in this area.
