AUO and CMO Sign 2009 Supply Agreement with China TV Vendors

Leading Taiwan LCD panel makers AU Optronics (AUO) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) have signed a supply agreement for 2009 with nine China TV vendors, including Konka, Hisense, and TCL, according to market sources.
The sources indicated that together, the nine China TV vendors will purchase US$2.19 billion worth of LCD TV panels from AUO and CMO in 2009, and the shipments are estimated to exceed 12 million units, up 29% compared to the shipments in 2008.
The sources indicated that China already accounts for about 15% of AUO''s LCD TV panel shipments and the company expects the ratio to increase to about 20% during the Lunar New Year Holidays, while CMO is supplying 22-inch and 26-inch LCD TV panels for a Chinese government program promoting electronic products'' penetration in rural areas.
China''s LCD TV market is estimated to be about 16-20 million units in 2009, the sources noted.
