China's Coal Industry Nets Profits of 67.8 bln Yuan in Jan-May with Accelerated

China's coal industry realized profits of 67.8 billion yuan in the first five months of this year, up 4.2 percent year on year, and the growth fell 10.8 percentage points as compared with that of January-May period, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

China's raw coal output in January-May amounted to 1.08 billion tons, up 7 percent year on year, which was 8.9 percentage points lower than a year ago.

Meanwhile, the country's coal shipment via railway totaled 679 million tons, down 3.5 percent.

Customs statistics also shows that China exported 10.53 million tons of coal in the period, down 43.1 percent year on year; and imported 32.2 million tons, up 72.6 percent. It thus reported a net import of coal totaling 21.67 million tons, an increase of 21.37 million tons over the year-earlier period.

The coal output was accelerated in May to hit 248 million tons, rising 9.6 percent year on year, which was 1.7 percentage points faster than a year ago. The coal inventories in transshipment port and power plants increased moderately.
