Domestic Consumption: Cautious But not Pessimistic

[2009-07-06]

During the first four months this year, China's total textile and apparel imported reached $ 4.569 billion, a 15.34% decline compared with the same period last year. The amount of imported apparel declined 20.61%. Negative growth in the import data reflects the decline in domestic consumption. But at the same time, retail data of domestic consumption is not as pessimistic as expected, apparel products in retail goods which are above designated size increased by 10.8% on a month on month basis. According to the import and domestic retail sales, we can get the conclusion that domestic consumption now is cautious but not pessimistic.
