Inner Mongolia's Coal Production Atop Nation's Total in First Half Year

Coal production of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reached 268 million tonnes in the first half of 2009, up 25.9 percent or 55.19 million tonnes, atop the nation's total, according to the regional government.

The region's coal production has increased rapidly in resent years, with 114.5 million tonnes in 2002, 298 million tonnes in 2006, and 457 million tonnes in 2008, indicating an increase of 30.6 percent or 107 million tonnes. 60 percent of Inner Mongolia's coal production was transported to other places to support the nation's economic growth.

According to the latest statistics, 446 coal mines and 700 billion tonnes of coal reserve have been discovered in Inner Mongolia, of which 289.264 billion tonnes of 422 coal mines have been listed in the nation's Mineral Resource Reserves.
