Invitation <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

3 rd China Iron & Steel Raw Material and Fuel Market Summit Forum

“3 rd China Iron & Steel Raw Material and Fuel Market Summit Forum” should be held from 1 st to 4 th Sep 2008 in the city of Xiamen. The forum is hosted by Umetal.com, assisted by Custeel.com and supported by China Iron & Steel Association (CISA), China Chamber of Commerce of Metal, Minerals Importers and Exporters (CCCMC) and China Ferroalloy Industry Association. It is predicted that there should be more than 700 participants in the forum.

Global iron and steel industry is developing rapidly recently. However, it faces more and more pressures from serious resources supply and environment protection. China imported 383.09m tons of iron ore in 2007, up by 17.4% in year-on-year. It is forecasted that China may import 430m tons of iron ore in 2008. International iron ore price has been rising up substantially for sustaining six years. Prices of fine ore from Brazil and Australia for 2008 soar by 71% and 96.5% respectively. Iron ore price negotiation rules for 2009 and the result of the negotiation could be the biggest suspense in the industry.

Chinese ferroalloy output was 17.5m tons in 2007, up by 22.1% in year-on-year. Pressures on resources and the environment from rapid developing ferroalloy industry are increasing day by day. Meanwhile, Chinese government have carried many policies and measures to administrate production and distribution orders in ferroalloy industry, including higher export tax on ferroalloy, industry access requirement, environment protection standard, ferroalloy export license administration, etc. All measures above may bring deep effects on Chinese ferroalloy industry and we should focus on the trend of ferroalloy industry.

Chinese is the biggest coke producer, consumer and exporter in the world. Chinese coke output was 355m tons in 2007, while the export volume was 15.3m tons, taking 60% and 46% in total global output and total international trade volume respectively. Coke price has been climbing up continuously since this year, because coking enterprises have to confirm the profit facing price hike of coking coal. However, it brings heavy production pressures to steel producers. China strengthens macro control on high energy cost and high pollution industry and coke industry would face more uncertain factors than before.
