China cement export to Africa surges by 3. pct

According to the General Administration of Customs, China exported US$940m worth of 22.64Mt cement in the first ten months of 2008, dropping 5.5% and 22.1% respectively from the same period of last year.
Cement export to Africa saw a big growth, while exports to EU and United States suffered no small decrease. From January to October of 2008, China exported 3.714 mln tons of cement to Africa, 30.2 pct higher than that in last year. On the contrary, exports to European Union and America went down by 58.6 pct and 56.3 pct respectively to 3.67 mln and 2.02 mln tons. Cement export to UAE suffered a decline of 8.7 pct to 2.831 mln tons. Cement export to the mentioned four regions took 54 pct of of the total export.
In the first ten months, 11.38 mln tons of cement was exported from Shanghai, down 3.8 pct from the same period of last year, accounting for 50.3 pct of the total amount. Shandong and Jiangsu enterprises respectively exported 44.69 mln tons and 19.67 mln tons, dropping by 51.1 pct and 48.4 pct.
