China Shipbuilding Industry Report, 2007

In 2006, China' s shipbuilding completion reached 14.52 million DWT, up by 20% compared to 2005. The newly obtained orders stood at 42.51 million DWT, seeing a rise of 150% over 2005 and taking a global market share of 30%, exceeding Japan to rank the second in the world. Besides, the held orders amounted to 68.72 million DWT, increasing by 73% compared to the previous year and taking a global share of 24%. In Chinese market of three leading vessel models (oil tanker, container ship and bulk carrier), the shipbuilding of oil tanker surpassed that of Japan for the first time; the shipbuilding of container ship left Japan far behind; and the yield of bulk carrier ranked the second in the world, only behind Japan.

 

In 2010, gross weight of shipbuilding in China will take a quarter of the world' s total. And the figure will rise to 30% in 2015. Moreover, the ship kits rate will be up to 60% in 2010 and 80% in 2015. The yield of ship-based diesel engine will reach six-million horsepower in 2010 and eight-million horsepower in 2015.
