India Initiated Anti-Dumping Investigation into Soda Ash from China

On September 1, 2010, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of India learned from the website of the anti-dumping authority of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry of India that on August 20, 2010, the anti-dumping authority initiated an anti-dumping investigation into soda ash originating in China, the European Union (EU), Kenya, Pakistan, Iran, Ukraine, and the United States. This is the 7th anti-dumping investigation of India against China this year.

The applicant of the investigation is the Alkali Manufacturers' Association of India (AMAI) and the Indian HS Code of products in question is 283620.

The anti-dumping investigation period shall be from April 1, 2009 till March 31, 2010, and the injury investigation period shall be from April 1, 2006 till March 31, 2010.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry of India, from April 2009 till March 2010, India imported such products with a value of about USD 118 million.

As per the anti-dumping authority, each stakeholder shall submit relevant evidences and materials within 40 days from the date of proclamation.

According to the applicant, since China is a non-market-economy country, the anti-dumping authority shall adopt constructed prices (based on Indian statistics) to calculate the normal value of Chinese products.
