The U.S. to Impose Anti-Dumping Duties on China's Aluminum

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced on Oct. 28 to set preliminary anti-dumping duties on imports of aluminum extrusion profiles imported from China. They (duties) were set at 59.31 percent.

The department said it pre-determined the duties on grounds that the products are being sold below fair value in the U.S.

China is the world's largest exporter of the extrusions. U.S.-released data showed that it imported more than $513.6 million in aluminum extrusions from China in 2009, while in 2008, the amount was of $306.8 million.

Following standard procedures, the measures will have to wait for consent from the United States International Trade Commission, the organ that may recognize that damage is being caused by the imports of such.

In March this year, United Steelworkers and Aluminum Extrusions Fair Trade Committee filed to the U.S. Commerce Department to demand an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation on the China-imported aluminum extrusion profiles.
