Australia Calls For Mining Workers to Fill Skills Gap

Australia is calling for skilled engineers following fears that mining production in the country could be restricted by a severe shortage of qualified engineers and project managers.

The Australian Visa bureau is offering "very competitive salaries" for engineers with Australian Visas as mining companies compete for a limited pool of skilled workers.

The booming mining industry is causing job shortages in many other sectors of the economy as people flock to Western Australia and leave widespread job vacancies, according to the bureau.

A report by Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) in Massachusetts, US, has revealed the world is likely to experience a 10% to 15 % 'people deficit' in the global mining and upstream industries by 2010.
