[2008-12-23 17:07:01]
Solid growth in Australian wine exports to Asia again proved the highlight for the MAT export figures ended October 2008. Value shipped to Asia increased by 6% to A$268 million and stand-out performers driving the growth were China (up A$12 million or 21%) and Hong Kong (up A$6 million or 19%) with other Asian markets of Thailand, Japan and the Philippines also seeing value growth during the reported period.
In the year ended October 2008, there was a reduction in total volume of Australian wine exported to 693 million litres. The average price lessened marginally to A$3.65 per litre, and overall value was reported at A$2.53 billion.
A 19% increase in the bulk wine average price, saw it reach A$1.25 per litre. However, the impact of this bulk wine price increase was lessened by the consequent smaller share of bulk wine in the total export profile and an 8% decline in the bottled average price to A$4.41 per litre.
