Lanham, MD ? The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that APAC-Southeast, Inc., Gulf Coast Division, Dothan Plant, in Dothan, Ala., is a finalist in the competition for the prestigious 2007 Ecological Award for an existing hot-mix asphalt (HMA) facility, sponsored by Roads & Bridges Magazine. The company received the recognition at the association’s 53rd Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz.

NAPA’s Ecological Award competition, which started in 1971, recognizes excellence in HMA facility operations. “NAPA selects the award recipients using rigorous criteria to evaluate the environmental friendliness of their operations,” says Mac Badgett, 2008 chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. “The judges determined that APAC-Southeast’s Dothan Plant operates in an exemplary manner.”

The Dothan asphalt plant is a ten-year old facility that has produced in excess of 400 tons of HMA per hour while meeting all state air regulations. The plant’s emphasis on good environmental practices was built in from the beginning, says Sam King, quality and production manager. “We started even before the plant went in with a plan that would make the facility look good to the neighborhood. That included paving the site and adding attractive trees and flowers.”
