Pakistan Stone Development Company (PSDC) is striving hard to reduce the mining cost by applying modern mining technology and to enhance as well as facilitate value addition in quarrying.
Ihsanullah Khan, Chairman/CEO, Pakistan Stone Development Company said that PSDC is striving hard to reduce the mining cost by applying modern mining technology and to enhance as well as facilitate value addition in quarrying. Khan stated this while exchanging business potentials in stone industry with ICCI President Ijaz Abbasi here Tuesday. He said PSDC has taken many initiatives to develop dimensional stone industry, to increase the production of stone products to compete in international markets and to increase the mining productivity & efficiency. PSDC is trying hard to minimize the wastage of valuable natural resources which will help reduce environmental degradation. He said PSDC is also striving hard to reduce the mining cost by applying modern mining technology and to enhance as well as facilitate value addition in quarrying. Chairman PSDC said that initially our stone products exports were just 14 million dollars which has now reached to 50 million dollars while PSDC plans to take this figure to 500 million dollars by 2015. He said Khuzdar, Mohmand Agency, Chitral, Waziristan and many other localities in NWFP are potential areas to produce good quality granite and marble and thus contributing significantly to the development of these areas as well as to the national economy. He invited businessmen and investors to invest in this sector as it offers them great potential for growth and development and for earning huge returns. Ijaz Abbasi, said that Pakistan is blessed with plenty of natural resources among which granite and marble are recognized world over and by developing this sector on modern lines and adding value to its stone products, Pakistan can greatly enhance its exports and attract lot of domestic and foreign direct investment in stone industry. He said that there is lot of scope for growth of stone industry in Pakistan, particularly granite and marble sector as marble??s consumption is increasing phenomenally in the country triggered by both the domestic and commercial sectors. He said, that apart from domestic consumption, there is lot of potential to enhance exports of our stone products in international market by adopting modern technology in mining, processing and developing stages to upgrade and modernize stone products and to enhance its quality, production and value addition. He said development of this sector will also play an effective role in the economic growth of the country by making it a source of innovation and productivity.
