ASID-IL Announces 08 Scholarship Winners

The American Society of Interior Designers - Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL) today announces two scholarship winners. Christine Brady of Schaumburg, Ill., who attends the Illinois Institute of Art, and Melissa Szeredy of Westmont, Ill., who attends the College of DuPage, are the recipients of the Richard R. Smith Memorial Scholarship. Each full-time student has received a $1,000 check to offset fees for tuition, books and supplies for the current school year.

Christine and Melissa demonstrated their keen knowledge guiding the principles of interior design. We were impressed with both of their applications and are eager for them to join us as professional interior designers upon graduation. We congratulate both young women on a great job, said Hilary Sopata, 2008-09 ASID-IL chapter president.

The Richard R. Smith Memorial Scholarship competition is based upon excellence in design. Applicants were given an as built footprint of a space that provides a small commercial retail store with an apartment for the proprietor. Students were given all the design requirements that needed to be met for a complete design. Submitted on no more than two 18 x 24 boards, the individual projects included a scaled floor plan with all applicable symbols, two elevations, five material selections, and demonstrated how all life-safety and accessibility regulations were met.
