Official 2010 Mercedes E-Class Photos Leaked

Here it is ladies and gentlemen. No more spy photos and speculation. These are the OFFICIAL pictures of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, leaked Internet style (thank you www) for the world to enjoy. Mercedes had originally planned on a January 2009 release of the pics but a clever insider has provided them weeks early, a good holiday present for Mercedes enthusiasts and world car fans alike.

The E-Class has grown in size, length and width for more comfort and interior space. Safety has been a paramount consideration of course and we see that in the new impact absorbing bonnet that pops up 5cm to lessen injury to cyclists or pedestrians in a low speed collision. There's also a system that recognises potential collisions and warns through the driver's pedal that it's time to brake .

Existing technologies for Mercedes like Night Vision are to be found, and new ones such as blind spot and lane departure warning. New generation diesels 200 CDI, 220 CDI and 250 CDI give the frugal potential owners plenty of choice while the 300 CDI and 350 BlueTec come into play higher up. We know there are petrol variants too including the formidable E-Class AMG which should touch the 600bhp/ 450kW mark.

A live reveal of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is happening at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show along with the E-Class Coupe. The E-Class Cabriolet appears live at Frankfurt later.

The E-Class is often conservative, it has a broad function, as a basic saloon, as a taxi, and as a luxury car and a powerful sports model. This is a nice evolution and a return to more consistent Mercedes values after about 10 years of the brand being cheapened by the previous general S, C and E classes.

Report Abuse by daviepops | December 10, 2008 1:48 PM Looks exactly how we expected it to. The front is somewhat appealing but as with most Mercedes I only become interested with the AMG models. I do not like the back of this from the picture but perhaps its the colour. Give me an XF, A6, GS or 5-Series. Particularly the 5-Series render on the main page on this site. Im looking forward to seeing the Coupe version.

Looks more expensive and relevant than the current generation... seems to be more aimed to the chauffer-driven executives around the world than to the german cab drivers who have been buying the E-class for years now.

And yes, it looks chunkier and heavier, but if you look for sex appeal on a Merc sedan for an E-class budget, you might try a fully loaded C-class (maybe an AMG) or a base model CLS.

Reply | Report Abuse by spamme | December 9, 2008 11:26 PM I miss the days when MBs were timeless. The overdone styling of this (plunging front bumper trying to emulate everyone else's "big grille" look, needless swage in rear door and fender) will age very quickly.

It's actually a pleasant shape and has nice stance,a low cowl and good proportions. Just all the bling that dampens my affection for it... That and the unfortunate coincidence of inadvertently cloning the Mitsubishi Galant's taillamps.

Report Abuse by daviepops | December 10, 2008 1:54 PM I think they've inadvertently made it look more premium than the S-Class. Never have I seen a gradual design change with the E-Class. They're always using the E-Class to pioneer Merc's new design philosophy. This is why every E looks dated after about 3 years. I see the same outcome for this model.

Overstyled to the point it looks like a Cadillac.

Report Abuse by afterace2 | December 10, 2008 1:20 AM Hmmm, if you look at the latest Merc concept shown in that MyComand vid. That is the new design. The more sharply cut headlamps and front spoiler is mimicked in this design.

The first break away from the 'rectangle lights' mercedes' came with the E Class W210 (1995). Then the S class W220 (1999), then the C class W203 (2000) Same with the current models. First the E class 2003, S Class 2006, C Class 2007. Depends what you think of as a radical change in design.

Reply | Report Abuse by H34DL1N3R | December 10, 2008 12:16 AM In the US you can call a car a 2010 model year as long as its retail release date comes on or after January 2, 2009. You just can't have more than two Jan 1's in a model year.

There are various regulatory and marketing reasons to go with one year versus the next (meeting CAFE standards, certain safety regulations, how long a model year you want to have, and the effect on residual value, to name a few). Considering there have been 2009 models on the US market since summer of '08, March of '09 would be pretty late to introduce an '09 model. (But I think Honda is doing just that with the Insight, presumably mostly for the CAFE credits.)

Otherwise, the problem with this car is that it looks way too classy, I'd say much more than an S-Class. The design seems to rival that of a Maybach in terms of elegance. The S-Class seems to be in danger of having stolen sales.

Report Abuse by ck314 | December 10, 2008 8:20 PM Because Audi was the first car company that equipped its cars with LED DRLs as standard equipment on its S6 a couple of years ago. LEDs are like an accessory, not a safety necessity like seatbelts. Up to this point, LED DRL's have been unique as a trademark mostly to Audi and I would've preferred to have kept it that way. I guess it's sort of how Mercedes had the rearview mirror mounted signal lights, but now every other manufacturer has that. Think about it.

Report Abuse by RS5 | December 10, 2008 9:44 PM You make no sense, LED's are not a trend or an Audi copyright, it's the logical evolution and replacement of bulbs and halogen lamps since they are more powerful and last a lot more. Aston Martin has been using them for a cpl of years now, and in the near future practically all cars will equip them as standard.

'Copying' implies that someone, in this case, Audi, did something first and someone else (Mercedes), taking the original as an example did it again after the original. Technically, it could be said that all the other companies copied Mercedes for its seatbelts. But Audi has been at the forefront of the use of LEDs in automobiles. Read the FULL article:

LED taillamps were increasingly used in automobiles because they took milliseconds less than conventional bulbs to light, and were much brighter. LED DRLs seem to be more of a design element, like BMW's 'Corona' rings. Whether LED DRLs are the 'logical evolution' that's a matter of opinion, not something for you to decide.

It's true Audi was the first to come up with low and high beam LED's in a production car, but LED daytime running lights were standard on the AM Vantage V8 from 2004-2005. And it is an inevitable choice in the future since it has too many advangages over conventional bulbs (aesthetics, both more dramatic design and blueish color matching xenon/LED low & high beam, cost, durability, and so on...) If this weren't the case, why are they appearing in nearly every competent manufacturer's new models?

Mercedes has always designed maintaining their own identity , their cars have always looked as a Mercedes-Benz ! but now , it's obvious that there's a new design chief , cause he absolutely no idea of what design rules are !!! The back looks like taken from a VW Pheaton , and the front lights from a Cadillac , and the total height of the car is way way way to tall ! , not to mention the height of the hood is like a mile above the wheel arch line on the fenders , and if like that wasn't enough ! , the "fall" of the line of the back windows is more vertical than the one of the front windows ( A pillar ) !?!?, this is something that should never be !!! , they are making the same mistake Jaguar made with the new XJ , except that at least it has 0k looking front and back !!! ( not as good as the previous one , but 0k ! ). Mercedes ! you should do better ! way better !!! I've alway loved Mercedes-Benz , and the E class , but now... it's been killed... I sure now BMW most be very happy !!!

And how are they leaked?? Amazing!! Secondly, it's very difficult to judge a car from these small photos and not in the flesh. Let's wait and see when the car arrives how people are gonna react. I for one am looking forward to the new E-class

The E-class is always have been a taxi, a luxury cab for me, not a car to drive, not for show up. Since last model it is not so bad anymore but still look old from any angle exept interior. That relevation feels same.

Well...all I can say is..."Huh?" Horror of all horrors! It looks so Camry-like! The rear end looks like it belongs to a Japanese car from the late 90's! I hope the version with the sports-pack looks better than this.

Inner design should be cozy and practical. As other ppl said, if you want a sportier or more stylish 4-door approach get a C or CLS.

They didnt try to make something cool. Ooor something what is good looking for 5 years. And i think this is Merc going back in time. Thats good. e class is a very traditional mercedes. If you need a good looking merc, take a look at cls and cl. And propably the new E class coupe. Not the prettiest car by any means but thats not what he e class is all about. C class was clearly for the younger buyers whereas this is for the elderies.. But hey, this just me. Dont mind me Im just a curious little rhino.
