Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co. Ltd, one of China's biggest automakers, is recalling 29,916 vehicles on the Chinese mainland from October 10 to April 10 next year over potential rear wiper problems, the company announced on Monday.

The recall will cover the Odyssey sedans made between March 28, 2002 and October 21, 2003, the company said in a statement on its official Website.

The rear wipers can stick causing the electric motors to short circuit and become a fire hazard, the statement said. The company has so far not received reports of this problem from car owners on the Chinese mainland, it added.

Guangzhou Honda was founded on July 1, 1998 in southern Chinese city of Guangzhou as a joint venture by Guangzhou Automobile Group and Japan's Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

The company now has two plants with about 5,100 employees and an annual output capacity of 360,000 cars including the Accord, Odyssey, Fit and City.

In the first eight months of the year, the company produced 162,927 cars, a rise of 6.9 percent from a year earlier. It sold 160,655 cars, up 7.6 percent year-on-year, the company has said.
