Chinese Rock Lobster Reprieve Welcomed

[2009-01-19]

Thousands of dollars of live South East rock lobster en route to China for its New Year celebrations later this month are now likely to reach their destination, following a three month reprieve by Chinese customs.

This follows fears that significant amounts of rock lobster from South East water could be seized or left stranded at Chinese customs, following shock new health certificate rules being swept in on January 1.

The Border Watch reported on Friday that some of the shipments en route to China could be worth more than $50,000, depending on the size of the consignment.
