Leather Expert's Proposals on the Issues of Environment, Energy and Innovation

"In the next 20 years it will be good opportunity for the development of China Leather Industry", said Chen Zhanguang, the vice secretary general of CLIA. He proposed that the leather industry should take full advantage of governmental supporting policies issued recently and strive on environment, energy saving and technical innovation for updating the technology and equipment, and manufacturing. Meanwhile the enterprises should seek cooperation with international brands and domestic well known brands for upgrading the managerial level and quality of products, and increasing the capabilities of independent designing and research.

"In view of long term development, the leather industry will tend to eco-leather", said Li Weijuan, the president of Zhejiang Leather Industry Association. She added there were two kinds of company bankrupted during the financial crises, one was the companies of household workshops, and the other was companies with investments in many fields. Under the current scenario the industry should be carefully thinking before enlarging their production and moving to other industrial sectors. Although the industry is facing great difficulty, Zhejiang province has completed industrial chain; the enterprises should follow the developing mode of Headquarters economy.

Professor Li Zhiqiang in Sichuan University said now it is turning point for China leather industry, the industry should take the way of high investment and high output, high-tech and high added value products, instead of transferring the production to the backward areas, China leather industry should update the technology for reducing the pollution to the environment and recycling of resources.
