China Diamond Imports Rebound in Jan-April

China's diamond imports through general trade hit a new high of 63.3284 million U.S. dollars in April, up 11.3 percent year on year and 16.4 percent month on month, according to the latest statistics released by Shanghai Diamond Exchange.
In comparison, the figure for the first three months was only 118 million dollars, down 14.5 percent from the same period last year under the influence of global financial crisis.
In the first four months, the diamond trade volume slumped 55.1 percent from the year earlier period to 25.8668 million carats at Shanghai Diamond Exchange. The trade value reached 420 million dollars, down 2.8 percent from the same period of last year.
Added value tax collected by the Customs in the link of import totaled 49.4295 million yuan, down 11.1 percent from a year ago.
