We Should Make Iraq a US Territory and Then Join OPEC; But Why?

What is the solution to the war in Iraq? Well, let me explain one possible solution which perhaps you haven't thought of. Why don't we make Iraq a US territory and since it is an oil-rich country it will not be a burden on the federal government budget. In fact, the oil money can be used for all the infrastructure repairs, building schools and making it one of the most pristine countries on earth. This could be done all in about 10 years.

Since Iraq would be an exporting oil nation it could join OPEC and could produce at maximum volume which would keep the price of oil worldwide down. Iraq could then take a large percentage of those monies. Since Iraq would be a US territory, its largest trading partner would obviously be the United States of America and that means we can produce more goods and sell those in Iraq which would be actually part of the United States of America.

Since Iraq would be a US territory, we can keep our military bases there and use them to provide stability to the region. Iraq would also automatically be part of NATO. Strategically speaking Iraq is in a wonderful place on the map. By making Iraq a US territory this would solve many problems all at once.

Now, I realize that this is not a popular solution and it may not be quite as simple as I explain it, however fundamentally and philosophically it makes perfect sense. Perhaps this might be one avenue to consider to solve the problem of the trillion dollars at the United States of America has spent in the war in Iraq and the policing efforts that have followed. Please consider this or at least let's put this option on the table.
