TAIPEI PLAS 2008 to Be Launched at Nangang Exhibition Hall on Unprecedented Scale

With a history stretching back two-decade, TAIPEI PLAS has never seen anything like it! Here we are at its new home at the brand new NANGANG Exhibition Hall welcoming a record 429 exhibitors who are using 2,466 booths to stage the latest products from the plastics and rubber making world. That impressive increase in participants from the previous show is largely due to the constant efforts of the organizers TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TAMI (Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry). In its 10th cycle, TAIPEI PLAS 2008 (2008 Taipei Int’l Plastics and Rubber Industry Show)— and it all kicks off at the NANGANG Exhibition Hall Sept. 18 and runs until Sept. 22.

Although much of the world economy is recessed, this event and its industry in Taiwan continues to chalk up stellar results due to its strategic importance to the electronics industry (Remember that electronics require plastics and rubber and Taiwan’s a perfect outlet with global industry shifting production to the East) and the continual growth in the Asian auto and auto parts industry. As a result, both the number of exhibitors and booths this year has hit record size and grown 14% and 22% respectively over the previous 2006 show.

Who’s Who in Plastics & Rubber Making

Among the exhibitors will be leading manufacturers including Hemingstone, Kung Hsing, Jenn Chong, Hyplas, Ding Kuen, Hua Rong, Chau Chyao, Lung Meng, Apex Dynamics, Worldly, Fong Kee, Victor Taichung, Multiplas, Century Trading, Bosch Rexroth, and Conair.

Exhibits at the 11th TAIPEI PLAS include Multi-color Injection Molding Machines, All Electric Injection Molding Machines, and the thinner and tinier Precision Micro Injection Molding Machines. In addition, Fu Chun Shin, Victor Taichung, Multiplas, and Chumpower will demonstrate the latest All-Electric Plastic Molding Control and Equipment developed with assistance from the Mechanical and Systems Research Laboratories of the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI) that is helping Taiwan become a high-end plastics & rubber machinery producing nation of tremendous opportunity. As a result this show expects to attract more than 2,500 international visitors and 15,000 domestic industrial professionals.

Packed full of exciting, informative events

Those at the show will be amazed by the full line-up of 20 exciting informative events including seminars, workshops, and conferences. Get the latest news at these 15 focus talks presented by leading industrial and academic institutions, that cover such topics as “The Latest CE Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC,” “The Development of Medical Plastic Device,” “Production and Application of Biodegradable Plastic and its Market Prospects,” “Technological Presentations of the Integrated Project of All-Electric Plastic Molding Control and Equipments,” “Cavity Pressure Quality Control System,” “The Trend of Injection Molding Technology,” “The Development of Polymer Film,” “Technological Applications of Hydraulic Seals,” and “Cavity Pressure Quality Control System”.

Sourcing the best

With the show comes the “TAIPEI PLAS Procurement Meetings,” “TAIPEI PLAS Press Conference,” and the “Ceremony of Taiwan Plastics & Rubber Machine Awards for Excellence in Research & Innovation”. And with these is the very first “Joint Recruitment for Machinery Talents” will be held in cooperation with the 104 Job Bank to recruit outstanding talent for Taiwan’s massive machinery industry.

* Backgrounder - Taiwan Plastics & Rubber Machinery Industry

The plastics & rubber machinery industry in Taiwan has been in existence for 35 years and there are currently 200 to 250 plastics & rubber machinery manufacturers in the nation.  Taiwanese products are of excellent quality and are price competitive.  The R&D level exceeds that in China and Korea and is nearly on a par with that in Europe, the U.S.A, and Japan.  Taiwanese machinery products have been highly valued by both domestic and international buyers.  It is estimated that the production value of Taiwanese plastics & rubber machinery in 2007 was about NT$40.2 billion, an 8.0% growth compared to 2006, making Taiwan a major plastics & rubber machinery producing country in the world like Germany, Japan, Italy, the U.S.A, and China.  The export value in the same year reached US$1.038 billion, a 6.9% growth from 2006.  Hong Kong and China were the largest export markets, accounting for US$378.9 million and 37.7% of the total export volume.

The total import volume was US$310.55 million. Japan was the largest source of imports, accounting for US$113.59 million and 36.9% of the total import value, followed by Germany with US$75.76 million and 24.4%.  China and Hong Kong ranked third with US$45.96 million and 14.8%.  Japan, Germany, China, and the U.S.A together occupied around 84% of the total import volume.  Mainstream Taiwanese plastics & rubber machinery products are injection molding machines, extruders, and blow molding machines.  Others include vacuum forming machines, hot embossing machines, tire making machines, and other special forming exclusive machines, etc.
