International

CMES has been active in international activities for years. As early as in 1950s, CMES established its cooperative relations with some international professional organizations and foreign engineering societies. Especially since China adopted the policy of reform and opening to the outside world, CMES' international activities has come into a new era.

At present, CMES is the member of 11 international professional organizations. including International Congress of Mechanical Engineering Societies, International Tribology Council, International Institute of Welding, International Federation for Heat Treatment & Surface Engineering, International Federation for the Theory of Machine & Mechanisms, International Council of Pressure Vessel, etc.

CMES has established the bilateral cooperative relationship with 39 engineering organizations in 23 countries.

CMES encourages its members to actively participate in various kinds of international conferences and technical exhibitions organized by the international organizations and foreign sister societies. Up to now, CMES has sent about 200 delegations of different sizes with over 1000 members to attend the technical activities held in other countries.

CMES frequently invites the world leading experts and scholars such as Prof. Peter Jost, President of International Tribology Council, Prof. H. J. Kopineck of German Nondestructive Testing Society and Prof. Ali Seireg of ASME to visit China and give first class technical lecture presentations which provided thousands of CMES members with the latest technical information. More foreign counterparts were invited to attend various technical activities organized by CMES. During the past 20 years, more than 4,100 foreign guests visited CMES.

CMES pays great attention to the organization of international conferences in China. During the past 20 years, CMES has organized dozens of international conferences independently or under the entrustment of international organizations. The most successful examples are the 47th IIW Annual Conference, the 61st World Foundry Conference; the 7th Asian-Pacific Conference on Nondestructive Testing; the 18th International Conference on Computers and Industrial Engineering; International Conference on Material Handling and the First International Conference on Mechanical Engineering, the Sixth International Congress of Mechanical Engineering Society held in Shanghai, 2001 etc.

Due to the active participation of CMES members in international activities, CMES has won good reputation in the world engineering community. Some veteran CMES members were granted different honorary titles by CMES' sister societies, while a number of outstanding CMES members were elected to take the leading posts at some related international organizations.
