'Self-destroy' syringe wins recognition

A minor modifi cation on a syringe has helped a small enterprise in East China's Jiangsu Province to reap sustained growth and earned some $6 million by sales in domestic market and exports to European, US and African markets.

Wuxi Yushou Medical Co., Ltd., a professional fi rm specializing in PP plastic syringe, used its successful innovation of a "safe self-destroy" syringe to gain much added value and received recognition of the World Health Organization in 2005. And within three years, it has gained more than 10 domestic and international patents.

As a patented product, the syringe adds a self-destroy apparatus to the hallow tube, which will fix the position of the tube after using, thus reducing the chances of re-use to avoid inter-infection of the virus.

Currently, only two Chinese fi rms can manufacture the product. With the new product, Wuxi Yushou's profi t is remarkable, as its price for the new syringe rose by 40%, and its export jumped by more than 30%. And 70% of its exports were from its new syringe.

On the fi rst day of the 3rd phase, Yushou received orders worth of some $40,000.
