Xinjiang’s Bazhou Area to Maintain Cotton Acreage

[2008-12-23 17:03:47]

The Agriculture Ministry of Bazhou in Xinjiang Province has indicated that 2008 cotton acreage in the area is expected to remain unchanged at 130,300 hectares. The local government is urging growers not to expand cotton acreage despite good returns in 2007, which appears to be part of the Xinjiang government’s overall effort to balance cotton acreage against that of other crops. Chinese mills continue to import U.S. Pima styles despite excessive local stocks of ELS cotton due to quality requirements.
