Resin Ultra-fine Cenosphere Composites Develops

Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences developed high-performance ultra-fine cenosphere / polymer composites through the use of modified treating agent and compound process to the surface of ultra-fine beads, so that hollow beads can be evenly distributed in the polymer matrix, making the beads and the matrix has a good Interface bonding.

It is understood that the modified PP with adding 20% hollow beads compares with the pure PP, notch impact strength increasing 80%-100%, tensile modulus and bending modulus increasing above 50%,, bending Strength increasing, only the tensile strength remaining unchanged or droping slightly. Superfine cenosphere belongs to inorganic compounds, and the wear-resistance is better than polypropylene. In addition, it has reflection to UV, improving the anti-UV properties to composite materials.

According to introduction, it can play the cenosphere's characteristics using of ultra-fine cenosphere modified polymer in the fly ash,  then the mechanical properties, wear resistance, insulation properties of polymers  increases substantially, getting high-performance polymers. On the other hand, the masterbatch made from modified ultra-fine hollow beads that suitable for polyethylene or polypropylene can increases the mechanical property, wear resistance, insulation property substantial, reducing material cost, which are very suitable for  the injection molding industry of high rigidity and high toughness.
