A conference in Brussels last week was told that there would be no recovery in Western Europe's construction sector until 2011.
The Euroconstruct conference also heard that Ireland and Spain were expected to record the largest drops next year, with output in both falling by 16%. New housebuilding was expected to slump 42% in Ireland. The total volume of building output in the 19 countries covered by Euroconstruct is expected to decline 4.3% next year, after a 2.5% dip this year. Output is forecast to stabilise in 2010.
