Ticona To Build Vectra? LCP Unit In China
Florence, Ky.-based Ticona ? the engineering polymers business of Dallas-based Celanese Corp. ?
will build a 7,000-metric-ton-capacity Vectra? liquid crystal polymer production facility at the
Celanese integrated chemical complex in Nanjing, China. The new plant will produce highly
crystalline, thermotropic thermoplastics for electrical and electronics applications. Construction
of the facility is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2009, with operations expected to start
in 2010.
“The new Vectra facility is part of Ticona’s Asia growth strategy to directly serve our customers in this region of impressive growth,” said Sandy Beach Lin, president, Ticona and executive vice president, Celanese. “The new facility will be Ticona’s fourth at the Nanjing complex. In addition to manufacturing, we also provide technical and commercial resources and facilities focused on customer application development, specifically through our technical center in Shanghai.”
Ticona currently manufactures Celstran? long fiber reinforced thermoplastic and GUR? ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene at the Nanjing chemical complex. A 15,000-metric-ton compounding unit that will produce compounds for Ticona engineering polymers is scheduled to begin operations in early 2009. (See “ Ticona To Add Capacity at Nanjing Complex .”)
