China Polyester Production Up 26% in 2002

China's National Bureau of Statistics reports that the country'produced 3,565,800 tons of polyester fiber in the first half of 2002, an increase of 26% over the same period in 2001.



In addition, 295,400 tons of polyester staple were imported, up 11.4%. Polyester filament imports totaled 146,000 tons, increasing year on year by 4.1%.



In the first half, polyester staple fiber produced and imported amounted to 1,721,700 tons, up 23.2%; polyester filament fiber totaled 2,285,500 tons, up 24.30%.
