Acordis Industrial Fibers to increase production capacity for airbag yarns

Arnhem / Wuppertal — Acordis Industrial Fibers is going to increase its production capacity for PA 6.6 airbag yarns.

As part of its polyamide product strategy, Acordis Industrial Fibers has been committed to the development of the airbag market from the very beginning.

The company holds a leading position as a global supplier of high-grade polyamide 6.6 specialty yarns for this application area. In order to further strengthen this position and meet the strongly growing demand for airbag yarns, Acordis Industrial Fibers will raise its total annual capacity of approximately 17,000 tons by 6,000 tons.

The production sites Scottsboro (Alabama, USA) and Obernburg (Germany), will each account for 3,000 tons of the capacity increase. The additional capacity in Scottsboro will come on stream by late June 2002 and in Obernburg presumably by year-end 2002.

The process technology for these capacity extensions has been especially developed for these yarns, which will cover strongly risen market needs for side impact and side curtain airbags.

Acordis Industrial Fibers is one of the world's leading producers of industrial yarns for the automotive industry, for technical fabrics and numerous technical applications, and for tire reinforcement, including converting. Headquartered in Arnhem (the Netherlands), Acordis industrial Fibers is a global producer, with fully owned production facilities in the Netherlands, Germany, the United States of America, and Brazil.
