Furniture designer Peter Karpf is one of three recipients of this year’s Woodworking Award (Træpris). The Woodworking Award is given every second year by Træinformation, an interest group with some 1,300 members in the wood trading and building sectors. The purpose of the award is to encourage the use of wood in architecture and design by awarding innovative and farsighted projects.

“Peter Karpf receives the award for his beautiful form-fitted chairs of veneer, foldable in several directions yet made of one piece. His refined design demonstrates a convincing treatment of wood’s potential and as a cabinetmaker he knows wood’s potential and works according to wood’s own terms,” according to the prize jury’s citation.

Peter Karpf (b. 1940) is a qualified cabinetmaker. He subsequently graduated from the Danish School of Art and Design. He is renowned for works like his moulded, sculptural chairs of the Voxia collection which he designed for Iform, a Swedish manufacturer. One of his latest designs is the Agitari shell chair, launched by Fredericia Furniture in 2007.
